Between the months of May and June, the three-regional cross-border training activities on AML/CTF took place. The events had been planned with an in-person format but, due to the pandemic, they were converted into webinars. The positive aspect of holding the events online was that it was possible to increase the number of participants. From the 120 lawyers who would have been trained through in-person events, we finally trained 1.037 lawyers from 25 EU Member States. In that way, we have been able to reach many more lawyers than foreseen on a topic that is very important for the legal profession.
The first event took place on 17 May 2021 with participants from the following Member States: Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Netherlands, and Sweden. The second event (which was held in French) took place on 4 June 2021, and had among its participants lawyers from France, Belgium, Czech Republic, Poland and Spain. The last event took place on 28 June 2021 with participants from Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Spain. All three had an identical programme, and the speakers were top-rank experts on AML/CTF. The three events were recorded and can be viewed through the project’s website: https://aml4lawyers.eu/videos/
The project’s website also contains useful material, developed by the consortium under the contract awarded by the European Commission (such as the user’s manual and presentations from the three-regional cross-border events), and also material from third parties. The material can be consulted here: https://aml4lawyers.eu/material/ Now that all the project activities have been successfully implemented, the project is entering its final phase during which a final report will be presented to the European Commission. The project will officially end mid-November 2021.
